·· The medieval and Cathar Study Centre

Medieval and Cathar Study CentreLocation:
Bagà is an ideal setting for the Medieval and Cathar Study Centre (Centre Medieval i dels Càtars - CMC) for a number of reasons: its strategic situation halfway along the Route of the Cathars (Camí dels Bons Homes - CBH), its privileged position in the centre of the powerful Barony of Pinós, and its well-preserved and agreeable town centre – the only such medieval site in Catalonia – presided over by the Pinós castle-palace. In the future a Cathar Interpretation Centre will be incorporated into the permanent CMC exhibition, thereby complementing the popularising of the Cathar route with learned debate and expert interpretation.

Description:
The exhibition is located on the ground floor of the palace and includes two different study areas. In the inner circuit (5 rooms), different historical characters describe the times they lived in and the dramatic and happy events they had to live through: a Cathar in the dungeons of the Barony of Pinós, the controversial Guillem of Berguedà, the troubadour Raimon Vidal of Besalú in Mataplana castle, and the most famous Catalan Cathars of all, Arnau and Ermessenda of Castellbó. Your visit to the exhibition will be accompanied by a digital audio-visual depiction of the popular legend of the Rescue of the Hundred Maidens, a cinematographic version of the story based on illustrations and factual accounts.

Timetable:
Summer: open from 15th June to 15th September.
Winter: open at the weekends.
